To support land management in the PNCAT area, we use various satellite based platforms to track land use changes.

Fires

Using FIRMS fire data, we create weekly, monthly, and yearly map products around the PNCAT showing fire activity. Fire activity in this area is typically man-made and therefore usually in violation of government statutes. You can see the latest fire activity by clicking on these links:

Ex-Calder Zone

The area known as “Ex-Calder” has a lot of deforestation happening starting August 3, 2021. The landowner seems to be clearing forest for farming. Click on this link to see the current amount of deforestation. Scroll through the map to see the deforestation progress since August 3.

Sosa Zone

Sosa is a small landowner living and operating without permission in the PNCAT. He has been clearing land around his squat. We are using satellite imagery to understand the extent of that deforestation. Click here to see a timelapse series of images showing the progress of the clearing.
